Public Comments at TVUSD Governing Board Meeting
Thank you, President Hinkson. Good Evening and Happy Holidays to everyone from TVEA. Welcome Mr. Darling and Welcome back to Dr. Rutz-Robbins.
I would like to make sure the board is aware of TVEA’s Community Engagement efforts in both providing information and seeking feedback regarding LCAP.
On December 6th TVEA held a one hour LCAP Community Forum at Margarita Middle School. Among approximately fifty people attending were parents, students and TVEA members, including more than one dozen LCAP specialists.
We first presented some basic information about LCAP at the state and local level in a large group session. Special Guest Temecula City Council Member Elect James “Stew” Stewart spoke briefly as a community stakeholder.
We then split into three discussion groups built around 2016-17 LCAP State and Local Priorities: College and Career Readiness, English-Language Learners, and Parent Engagement. We also had an LCAP Specialist Table Area in which specialists could share their programs with attendees.
On behalf of TVEA, I would like to thank Diana Damon-White and Gil Compton for their support in developing the discussion group themes and sharing content for our large group session. Your collaboration is much appreciated.
TVEA also values the support and attendance of Rebecca Weersing and Lynn Shaver of PTA and the Family Engagement Action Team.
Finally, I would like to commend our own TVEA LCAP Committee Chair Ricardo Salcedo for his energy and passion toward making the event a success.
LCAP in its creation is intended to involve local stakeholders in each educational community in determining what actions and services are essential. Yet it seems like few are well informed about their role, nor willing to act on their responsibilities as a community member.
TVEA is committed to continue providing information and gathering feedback from stakeholders particularly at the school site level. This will likely be our major focus before our first consult meeting with TVUSD in late February.
We look forward to being a continued part of the “Local” in the development of TVUSD’s Local Control and Accountability Plan. Thank you
