MONDAY DECEMBER 8TH TVEA UPDATE

Monday January 5: As a result of the October contract ratification, the TVEA work year has been reduced from 185 days to 184 days effective in the 2014-15 year. There is no negative impact to the salary schedules here as this is not a work furlough. TVEA members will be paid their normal salary with one less calendar work day. The spring Semester begins Tuesday January 6th for both teachers and students.
School Board Meeting: Tomorrow December 9th at 6pm is the last school board meeting of the 2014 year. Certain targeted sites have already been contacted as TVEA is seeking to have a regular presence at board meetings. For the record, any TVEA member is a stakeholder in the educational processes of TVUSD and is encouraged to attend any meeting they are able. Tomorrow night is a special meeting as three newly elected board members will be seated for the first time: Julie Farnbach, Kevin Hill, and TVEA recommended board member-elect Sandy Hinkson. We are hoping for a big turnout tomorrow night to welcome the new board.
Bargaining: On Friday December 5th the TVEA Bargaining team negotiated with the district on Infinite Campus. The results of the recent Infinite Campus survey were shared with district personnel leading to a Demand to Bargain by TVEA. There will be a separate joint communique from Bargaining Chair Edgar Diaz and district leadership soon. TVEA is encouraged by the results of the session.
Tomorrow December 9th is an organizational planning day for the TVEA Bargaining Team. Feedback has been collected informally via member contacts and President site visits. There will be an opportunity for all members to provide feedback before negotiations begin for the 2015-16 year. Your Bargaining Team members for the 2014-15 school year are Edgar Diaz (Chair, GMS), Brian Balaris (TAVS), Mike Brewer (LES), Patty Casey (BVMS), Lowena Manzano (CHS), Nicole Paino (TMS), and Larry Thompson (TVHS).
Member Social December 17th:
TVEA is hosting a member Social/Happy Hour on Wednesday December 17th at Killarney’s Restaurant ((Highway 79 South) from 330-530. For a flyer on the event click here: TVEA will provide appetizers and members may purchase their own beverages. We hope to see you on the 17th for some holiday cheer!
