Negotiations and Tentative Agreement (3/19/09) |
Thursday, March 19 2009 |
TVEA has concluded negotiations with the district. A vote will take place after Spring Break. Negotiation Process for the current Tentative Agreement In November of 2007, the TVEA Bargaining Team identified contract items that needed language clarification along with the addition or removal of contract language. These areas included PLC, Hours, Kindergarten, Special Education, Compensation, and Transfers. Ad-hoc committees were created from the general membership and met last year in order to provide anecdotes, collect data, and propose changes to the contract language in the areas mentioned above. Trends emerged that affected multiple articles in the contract which created the bargaining priorities. The TVEA Bargaining Team then created proposals to present during negotiation sessions. Although many proposals were discussed, not all reached a level of discussion where both parties agreed to the changes. Only the articles where both parties reached an understanding were included in the current Tentative Agreement. As soon as the current contract is settled, the TVEA Bargaining Team will begin to organize for the next cycle. If you have any questions regarding this Tentative Agreement, please contact: Edgar Diaz, Bargaining Chair. Anne McNulty, TVEA President at 699-9970 TVEA strongly supports this agreement and encourages you to vote YES. Voting will occur after Spring Break. Tentative Agreeement |

Equity and Human Rights Conference Update (3/19/09) |
Thursday, March 19 2009 |
6 TVEA members, were fortunate enough to attend CTA’s Equity and Human Right’s Conference in San Jose, March 6-8th. Part of CTA’s Mission Statement says, “…to ensure that the dignity and civil rights of all children and youth are protected and to secure a more equitable and democratic society”. The sessions were very diverse and represented many different ethnic and minority groups. A few of the sessions included: Immigration, Legal Issues for Women, Gay/Lesbian/Bisexual/Transgender, Asian American, Suicide Prevention, Union News, Sustainable Energy, and much more. There was something for everyone and attendees took home information that could be easily implemented. Next year’s conference will be in Irvine and we urge as many people as possible to attend. If you would like more information about the conference, please contact Heather Polk. |
